Dune: Awakening vs Conan Exiles – Survival Game Showdown
As someone who cut their survival-game teeth on Funcom’s Conan Exiles, I was curious to see how its spiritual successor, Dune: Awakening, would stack up. Both games adapt iconic franchises and share a developer, but they take different paths within the genre. After spending time in both worlds, I’ve formed a clear picture of where each excels—and which one deserves the spotlight.
World and Content
Dune: Awakening’s world execution is noticeably more polished. Every desert vista and ruined city feels intentionally placed, drawing you into the harsh beauty of Arrakis. Conan Exiles, by contrast, benefits from sheer variety—its multiple biomes (from frozen mountains to swampy jungles) keep exploration fresh. But when it comes to sheer quantity of content, Conan is the clear winner. It has years of expansions and updates under its belt, offering hundreds of hours of things to do. Dune, being newer, has a tighter but more curated experience.
Combat and Graphics
Neither game will win awards for its combat, but each has its strengths. Dune shines in ranged combat with a wide array of weapons and meaningful skill upgrades. Conan delivers a more visceral melee feel, especially with blades and heavy weapons. On the technical side, Dune’s graphics are superior—it’s a newer title with better lighting and texture work. That said, Conan still holds its own with strong art direction, and its diverse biomes give it a visual edge in variety.
