• RDR2 Legendary Animals: Locations & Tips

There are 16 legendary animals scattered across Red Dead Redemption 2’s map, each guarding a rare pelt that can be exchanged at the Trapper in Saint Denis for unique outfits and accessories. The hunt begins in Chapter 2 with the Bharati Grizzly Bear during the mission “Exit Pursued By a Bruised Ego,” but the remaining creatures are discovered as optional side activities. Success depends on tracking clues like fur remains and paw prints, using stealth, Dead Eye, and scent removers, and selecting the right weapon for the animal’s size.

      General Hunting Tips

Large predators and herbivores require high-powered rifles such as the Springfield, Rolling Block, or Carcano with Express ammo, while smaller game like beavers and foxes are best taken with the Varmint Rifle. Bow and poison arrows work well against aggressive boars. Always dress warmly when heading to cold regions like Lake Isabella, as Arthur loses health in extreme temperatures. Four animals reside in New Austin and Lemoyne—areas that constitute spoilers—and the Giaguaro Panther only appears after reaching Rank 9 in the Master Hunter Challenges. Use Dead Eye to land clean heart or head shots, and apply scent remover to avoid detection.
