Duet Night Abyss: Character Unlock Guide

Unlocking characters in Duet Night Abyss isn’t immediately obvious, but there are four main routes to build your roster: story progression, Secret Letter Clues trading, Nocturnal Echoes boss fights, and the time-limited Immersive Theatre. Each method has its own grind and rewards, and knowing how to prioritize them will save you time and resources.

Story Progression

Playing through the main story gives you several characters for free, including Berenica, Rebecca, Outsider, and three others like Daphne and Lisbell. These give you a solid start, but even free characters need Thought:Character shards and materials to stay viable in late-game content. Don’t assume they’re ready to go—you’ll still need to invest in their upgrades.

Secret Letter Clues

This is your primary farming method for character shards. Earn Secret Letter Clues through story events and daily missions, then spend 10 clues to buy a Secret Letter from Covert Commissions. Using a Secret Letter gives random rewards: Bronze (basic items), Silver (2 shards), or Gold (10 shards, roughly 10% chance). You need 30 shards to unlock a character, so expect multiple runs. Nine characters use this method, including Berenica, Rebecca, and Lynn—the rest follow a similar pattern. Farming here is faster than Nocturnal Echoes but relies on luck.
